Cinderella Man

Cinderella Man B+
starring Russell Crowe, Zellweger released June 2005

Cinderella Man is a historical piece about a boxer in the depression. That describes pretty much the whole plot but the movie is so much more. The actors are extremely convincing in portraying characters of this era. I’ve seen depression movies before but none have tugged at the heart-strings like this movie. One of the best relationships is between Crowe and his oldest son. There is not much dialogue here but the connection is strong and the time between them is quite important. The boxing matches are built up very well and all the characters were interesting because they had more of a human side than the usual one-dimensional Hollywood movie characters. This movie is probably going to be nominated for some awards. I’m not sure if it will win with the whole boxing movie last year but it deserves to at least get nominated.

Spurs over Pistons

Spurs have one of the greatest teams since Jordan’s Bulls IMO. Parker Ginobili and Duncan are all outstanding and their role players are the best role players bar none. The best thing that the Spurs do is to play efficiently. You don’t see McGrady like stats where someone gets 30 points on 35 shots. That seems good for him, but those stats really don’t help the team win games. The spurs all shoot decent percentages and on the other side of the court they shut down the easy buckets that a team like Phoenix relies on. The Suns haven’t gotten below 100pts in a while but vs. the Spurs last night they only scored 92.

On the other side, the Pistons will shut down Wade. Prince is one of the best defenders as he is freakishly long and quick. Wade is still just a kid and typically kids can only take their team so far. O’Neal could save his team, but the O’Neal I’ve watched this playoffs isn’t going to get it done unless there is some amazing turnaround. True teamwork and balance will prevail.

Spurs over pistons in 6.

Another Day

So gaminglife is not easy, more on that later.

Google ads For the one day which may not have been a full day, I got 100 visits and 8 clicks to give me $0.30
woohoo! I can almost make a phone call! Anyway, I’ll leave it up a bit longer, it doesn’t really intrude IMO.

So when i set my alarm at night, i just do simple addition giving myself like 9h of sleep. Well today my alarm went off at 16.30 or 4.30pm. Ya that is messed up.

Recently, I just picked up Deus Ex:IW and Midnight Club3 for xbox. Reviews should be done shortly but both are good games.

Oh I also might try a 7 day planetside thing to kill some time. PS was kinda fun in beta but lacked a purpose. It has been a while so maybe they have improved it.

Click some ads for me! I’m not sure how profitable this google stuff can be. I’ll probably take it down unless it makes me some serious coin.

Lipstick List

1

So in one of my reviews I made reference to my lipstick list. This refers to the nut job in Billy Madison who has a list of people to kill written in lipstick
Buscemi from BillyMadison

I’m no killer but here’s the list regardless. (more…)

Star Wars Episode III

Star Wars Return of the Sith B+
released May 2005

Star Wars was a somewhat straight forward movie with the strange characteristic in being the movie that immediately precludes another one. I knew how every character ended up with only one or two minor exceptions but it was still a new experience and a surprise because of how it was written. I was very pleased with how Anakin turned in to Darth Vader as well as Padme’s character who was very well done by Ms. Portman. The sword fighting had a few gimmicks like Grievous with his four arms or fighting on floating platforms. It didn’t really do much for me. It is rare for action to be unique and interesting but Star Wars has the unique force powers that when mixed with regular sword fighting could create a really cool action sequence. So the movie had failed to meet its very high potential to be great which lowers the score in my book.

All of the sequences with Obi Wan and Yoda and Windu seemed to conform to the way of the Jedi. Also the senate was full of pawns which was a little silly but not altogether unrealistic. One of my problems is I didn’t know why Palpatine had complete power over all the clones. Another problem was Obi Wan’s quote, “only the Sith have absolutes.” Logically this statement is an absolute and would make Obi Wan a Sith.

Any way, it was a good story and looked great. Also some of the characters like Padme Anakin and Yoda were especially real and deeper than I thought they would be. I wouldn’t mind seeing more Star Wars movies if they wrote more. This one showed that they can be well done.

Lame Duck Government

How long can this joke of a government stay in power?
My bet for the nonconfidence vote is first week of June.
For those priveledged to have a functional government, don’t take it for granted!

2005 NBA Draft

0

So today there was the nba draft lottery. Bucks scored big by getting #1 and Raps stayed at #7 but this draft doesn’t seem quite as stacked as others in the past. It is hard to compare to last year with Okafor, Ben Gordon, Dwight Howard and company. Or the year before which may go down as the best draft ever. That year had Lebron, Carmelo, Wade and Bosh plus many more.

When looking back it is obvious that this year is not the same. Most of the high picks are 6-11 slow guys with poor shooting and defense and work ethic. Every year there are good players but it might be a bit more difficult to find them this year.

Here’s my mock draft

Don’t argue with fools

0

So another day of complete nothing productive. It was still fun though. 24 rocked. The website is all tweaked the way I like and I like looking at the audioscrobbler stuff. I’ve started to look at some of the music that it recommends for me. Its pretty cool.

Here’s the ‘rhyme’ of the day. Fo’ real.

A wise man told me don’t argue with fools
Cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who
So stop with that childish talk, — I’m grown
Please leave it alone – don’t throw rocks at the throne.
Do not bark up that tree, that tree will fall on you
