Today I went to the Stampeders game with 3 other flesh and body humans. (Almost the high for the week)

It reminded me of the last time I saw the Stamps when they lost to Toronto. Calgary gave the ball up so many times and there were a couple of defensive miscues that the opposition didn’t actually outperform the Stamps but rather Calgary self destructed. The stampeders offense was generally good and the defensive front 7 did an excellent job.

In the crazy world of CFL, almost everyone makes the playoffs. The only time a team needs to be good is for the playoffs. Once (if) the turnovers stop, Calgary has a shot to run the table and with the cup but I don’t think Calgary will finish too high in the regular season

Shootout? meh, ok
Goalie zone? Not different enough
No red line? Could be good, although could cause new problems
Smaller goalies? 1 inch isn’t much, but its the right direction. I think the smaller jerseys would be best.
Smaller neutral zone? Maybe even smaller next year
Less room behind net? Not sure if this is good or not
Tag Up Offsides? I think this is ok, but it might encourage more dump-ins
No shift change with icing and icing on a PK? Seems scary for a PK team but should weaken the defense. You might get boring scrums in the boards more often.

No touch icing should have been there.

Although the best move could be obstruction if they finally get the refs to call it for the whole season/playoffs.

Canada needs hockey. Canadian football is ok, but it is about 1/3 of the year.
The only thing on TV since the NBA playoffs has been baseball. Ugh.

Well hockey comes back and I’m suddenly a proud Calgarian now that our Flames team is good! Say what? Ya, we are good, no lie.
Flames should still have the important guys like Iginla, Regehr, Kiprusoff, Leopold, Nilson, Warrener, and maybe Simon, Gelinas, Niemenen. Plus some new faces like Langkow (gritty skilled center) and Phaenuf (superstar defense) I don’t know if we quite stack up to the Avalanches but it doesn’t seem too far fetched. We have 5 or 6 solid defensemen and our non superstar guys (Lombardi, Yelle, Kobasew, Reinprecht) still compete even if they don’t have the recognition.

Anyway I hope to catch lots of games on TV and the occasional game at the ‘dome. I’m sure we will all be disappointed when the Flames get 7th and knocked out in the first round but alas we will all cheer with hope that lightning will strike twice.
Side note: “Lightning never strikes twice …” is a retarded myth.

So the NBA Draft was a few days ago and Toronto was sitting pretty at 7 and 16. Spurs were way at the bottom so I didn’t even follow their pick. I made a post regarding the draft a while ago and I seemed to do ok except for Andius… who dropped off the radar. “Graham as a Jalen Rose replacement” I sure hope this comes true. I’m actually surprised I picked Graham there as most mock drafts didn’t have him going this high but the Raptors went on and picked him. (more…)
