Abortion in S Dakota
0From books I’ve been reading and the success at my school (I think) with putting up anti-abortion billboards, I can see a change that could possibly occur. The pro-choice side will definately be all uppity, but pro-lifers are pressing back. Despite obvious problems in USA, they do have alot of character and there’s little chance a law could ever be overthrown in Canada or Europe from what I know. Go South Dakota!
When is an abortion not an abortion
If you truly equate abortion with murder, it’s hard to settle for slowing it down rather than stopping it altogether, right away… Which is what South Dakota now proposes to do. Lawmakers threw away the chisel, grabbed a sledgehammer and went at Roe with a fury, all but daring the Supreme Court to step in. The bill they passed last month, HB 1215, bans all abortion, including in cases of rape and incest, including cases that threaten the health of the mother; the only exception is if the mother’s survival itself is at risk, and even in those instances the doctor must “make reasonable medical efforts under the circumstances to preserve both the life of the mother and the life of her unborn child.” Doctors caught performing abortions would be charged with a Class 5 felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.”
One step closer to a geranium
0Despite knowing this was going to happen, it is still bizarre.

Opera
0Dead Man Walking, an American Opera.
Lowdown:
Story was generally good, serious topic, iffy ending
Characters were hit and miss
Performance was quite good
Music was also pleasing
In general, opera is just heavily flavored (enhanced) theatre and it seems pretty cool. Ordinary stories are less interesting, but this one was quite adult in its nature. Even if it isn’t what I would pick first, I still like opera style and definately added to the experience. I’d also like to hear a hiphop or blues musical done with the same message. I dislike traditional musicals because they get carried away focusing on the song (Do a deer, a female deer…) and the story is neglected. This opera atleast could possibly stand alone without music and doesn’t try to be so childish and simple.
Evolution vs Design
5Kansas education board downplays evolution – Science – MSNBC.com
This has been going in the news back and forth for a while now. Almost everyone in the media has a negative Creationism slant and usually their best argument is that Intelligent Design is religion, not science.
I agree.
I don’t think you should prove to non-believers that God exists. Especially when they dont want it. My approach would be to disprove evolution and leave it at that. Anything beyond that in order to prove Creationism would have to come from the Bible which obviously wouldn’t fly in science.
Now ideally I would teach Christianity in every subject, but when the general populous doesn’t want that, I wouldn’t force it to them. Now some labelled as “christian conservatives” might support this, but it seems a bit too heavy handed to me. People can be told to believe in something, but I’m a supporter of choosing to find the Truth instead of getting smacked over the head with it. I’m glad Kansas is simply “casting doubt on Darwin”
Smart-Sexy
0Often advertisements have excerpts from positive reviews and they are even down to like one or two words. I saw an ad praising some WB show and there was this quote
“Smart-Sexy”
That was the entirety of quote and it was even hyphenated.
What is “Smart-Sexy”? Do people really think, “oh, having sex here is smart.” or “that is so smart i want to have sex”
I am baffled and appauled.
Downtown CTF
0This sounds awesome! It is Capture the Flag (tag, not paintball or tackling) in the urban Toronto core. You just put on an armband and go. There are some transportation restrictions and zone restrictions but it all looks pretty open. Its so random and insane that I’m sure it would be fun atleast once.
First to say
1Merry Christmas!
I’ve been listenening to Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas (11s sample) CDs and I’m all in the festive mood. I decided to start Christmas season before those filthy advertisers stick it in our face. So enjoy Christmas before it gets contorted and materialized.
Note: I would have used a traditional Santa Hat, but this one is so cool
The gold mine
0One thing I keep thinking about is how to tap the gold mine that is advertising money for the teenage boys – young men crowd. They don’t watch TV anymore so advertisers have very little access to this market. Video games might be the best way to reach this group and I’m sure people will complain. But as a gamer, if the industry explodes because there are 30 second GAP commericals replacing load screens, that is a price I would gladly pay but I know many would whine and groan.
Also I think professional gaming on TV could take off if the game was designed around the spectator experience. So ya, untapped market of boys/men is the key to money. If you figure it out, tell me and we can both become rich.
Drug tunnel
0CNN.com – Drug tunnel found under Canada border – Jul 21, 2005
The 360-foot tunnel runs from under a Quonset hut on the Canadian side of the border to the living room of a house in Lynden, Washington
Authorities said the tunnel — reinforced by wooden beams and steel bars — is between 3 feet (1 meter) and 10 feet deep and about 360 feet long.
I think that is pretty cool, two peaceful countries with open borders but there is still secret tunnels. It doesn’t really surprise me as Canada has some serious drug issues.
Sell the Beef
0CNN.com – U.S. lifts Canada mad cow ban – Jul 14, 2005
Wow, this took a long time. American industries are protectionist jerks when it comes to free trade. I wonder if there ever will be an international court that can tell everyone what to do. I also wonder if that will be a good thing.
