shapes and life

0

In an aesthetic world, some shapes are more appealing than others. Symmetry and smoothness I think provides some form of logic and comfort. Things that appear oblong or assymetrical or jagged are often percieved as wrong or misshapen, even if there is no shape that something needs to be. There is no correct shape of a fruit yet we might view an awkwardly shaped pear as wrong or bad.

The composition of a life may be shaped in a variety of ways. However I think most people find some comfort in fitting in a certain pattern with a spouse and a house, or some educational pursuit and travel. It seems like there is a lack of symmetry if someone has a spouse and education, or travels and has young children. They can seem awkward because of their rarity, but also because of the assumed imbalance that a life with unconventional characteristics would have. Someone may be a wizard with time, or perhaps more likely sadly neglecting one of these major areas.

Cultural output

I appreciate changing culture around me. We come across people from cultures that we are not in and it is foreign to us. For this reason I like making foreign cultures less foreign. To watch, or be immersed in, something new is key to understanding the value systems and qualities that make a culture.

Who is revered in this culture, and why are they there?
What qualities are ostracized and what happens to those who don’t comply?
How long do people stay at the top, and what happens after time?
What are the products of this culture to the rest of the world?

To know, requires a lot of travel and talking with locals. I would like to know more, and meet more people.
Do I know what my own culture’s output is? Does Canada give the world… apologizing, syrup and multicultural harmony? Hmm.

Primary pursuit

0

People I know pursue good things, but things in different direction.

To pursue love, family:
This creates an importance on searching, dating, accommodating the relationship, investing in it, making commitments, spending time and money, buying a house to settle in, paying big bills, juggling work and home.

To pursue work, career, knowledge, skills:
This starts with focus and dedication, long hours studying, diligent work, time-management, limiting fun and emotions, moving city to city, X Y Z

To pursue virtue, charity, ministry:
This starts with some soul searching and relational connections. Endurance through difficult preparations, patience with difficult people, strength to push through challenging times and doubts. Emotional stability and self-monitoring.

Back to blog. Five updates

I dont think I’ve gone this long without blogging. I blame nothing happening that is longer than 140 characters, aka microblogging (twitter) is often sufficent, so why do I need to post here? when I can post there http://twitter.com/threeup

I like words and full expression. It is hard to pick up tone, or learn why someone thinks something. Microblogs are often just a fact, not an opinion. The style in which something is expressed I believe is part of the communication package.

Ok, now for some random anecdotes. (more…)

This is where I am.

I feel that I am half as weird as an extremely weird person. Maybe two-thirds.

I have a recipe for a delicious desert. It takes one pineapple. Cut it. Serve chilled.

I most certainly feel more alive when the sun is down. Why? Insert cheesy vampire reference here.

I see ties in my closet and then after a while I break down and wear one. Keep immorality out of my closet.

I love giant abrupt changes from light things to heavy ones, or vice versa.

I get itchy from my blanket and talk to my future wife before I sleep.

I feel like I seek true hearts, but most people inside are about diamonds spades or clubs. Uhh.. Spades are up arrows, so, worldly success. Clubs are luck, or … violence. Phew, analogy saved.

I still don’t get bored unless I wait for things. The Sheridan brain is sometimes a locomotion machine and sometimes a cyclical perpetual motion machine. Lately more of the latter.

I like words, but realize this is a knowledge barrier thrust upon people I communicate with.

I am twenty five, but don’t want this to be twenty six. Four months to evolve. Luckily, it would be behavioral not biological evolution.

I am Sheridan, this is where I am.

Say what now?

I’m not really in a place to be lengthy in writing.
Hmm. Perhaps I’ve decided I’ve said everything I can about life, or opinions except for little things that are of small consequences. I could word things elegantly as an art form, but there is little to inspire.

Christmas music comes around once a year. Once a year I need that medicine. Perhaps twice.

Having things in order, automated, easy, is the goal of many. But with that goal reached, and free time increased, then you have nowhere to hide from yourself.

I like pineapples, the word and the fruit, but I ate 10% of it and let the rest grow mold. I’m not sure why I don’t open my fridge and go ‘hmm…. pineapple!’. When I do go ‘hmm…’ , it is usually for a sobe pina colada, which, oddly enough has some pineapple flavor.

I jumped on board some jpop(link) /kpop(link)a few months ago and I’ve really not stopped. Embedded is some favorite korean content. Despite being miss certified superfine, Dambi’s appearance only the second reason I like this video. The first: it is quite pleasant and soothing. The third: it’s sad/romantic. The second: she’s very pretty. Oh, ya, I said that.

Son Dambi’s Invisible Person … good title.

And oh Canada…

  • Andreanne Sasseville’s music minute before a movie, why do i pick her out? She’s just an advertising talking robot, but I still like her. French Canadian pleasantry goes a long way. She was the first to mention Lights to me, so props to her.
  • George Strombo nobody interviews like him with legitimate edge, and legitimate mainstreamity.
  • Racial acceptance. It just seemed like it never came up negatively, just like the cool cultural parts of people’s background. Haters were the weird ones (or the foreign ones). Plus, there were more asians , even in halifax… sadface. To all asians, if you move to phoenix, i’ll buy you some of those pretzel sticks that don’t taste very good. Or maybe some fishy snacks that are awful.
  • Snow. Note that Ice Rain is definitely not on this list.
  • Leaving your door unlocked and not freaking out about it.
  • Second Cup.
  • Hockey. (duh.)
  • A government bureaucracy that seems like they put in effort to be helpful.
  • Decent public school system.
  • Colored money. – I don’t miss coins though. It is nice to never carry change.
  • Cultural food. More than one Thai restaurant in the whole city, and actual sushi…. sigh. A real mediterranean restaurant would be nice.
  • Political pleasantry.
  • Cora’s. A breakfast place that won’t cause heart disease.
  • Cheap, entertaining football.
  • Winter Heart. Watching a football game while in parkas and multiple blankets, or even a sleeping bag for warmth, that’s Canadian heart.

Ice 1

I walk very quickly. Ice slows me down a little, but not that much. I mean I’m a Canadian; I should be able to walk across hockey rinks, frozen sidewalks, roofed igloos and the like.

But today I was like this man — on a large slanted parking lot, my nimbility failed me.

If you think this is weird…

you must not know bout me, you must not know but me.
I could replace anything – in a minute, matter of fact, I did – in a minute
..
This week I ate sushi with a spoon, sorry chopsticks, to the left, to the left
I opened packages with a pen, sorry knife, to the left, to the left
I drank water from a bowl, sorry cup, to the left, to the left

-~-
But it doesn’t have to be as weird
Haven’t bought an alarm clock – thanks cell phone
I forget an umbrella so out comes the hood
No bread for a sandwich, bust out a tortilla.
In the mood for some jack johnson, play some jason mraz on three quarters speed
No date for saturday night dinner, bring out the notebook.
Family not around, hmm, … fly home and see them.

Lights Review – nerd cute.

Lights EP B++
by Lights from Sept 2008

So then there’s this new electro light pop sensation from Toronto called Lights (music video was linked a post or two ago). So I thought I’d bust out an actual music review. What is the verdict? Great so far! And according to the heavy play time in the past week or two. I definitely recommend it. She has airy, pleasant, technoy, nice melodies. I like the lyrics even if they are repetitive (such is the nature of electropop) It reminds me of innocent Britney Spears, which I definitely wasn’t much of a fan at the time. This is better because its got more dancy synth. Plus I can turn shadows into white. (My fav song so far)

Check it out if you like very feminine light dance pop. Hah. I guess thats me? Maybe its you.

—ok, review over, personal gushing time.

I dont know what it is about girls who are nerdy, freedom to be an individual, appreciation of a common art form, or entertainment form.

I am a new fan and while watching one of her blogs, I noticed she talks sooo quickly! Wow. She says she lost her nintendo ds with super mario and final fantasy and goes to pretend like she’s playing a ds using a kleenex box. Oh what a nerd, but very cute. (I lost my DS with super mario too! It was even pink… hah)

Oh, she talks about her spider, lance, as like an adult, hah, its also quite cute. She made him talk back with a paper comic book speech bubbles.

And made a pile of fans hold pieces of paper with <3 , no not an actual heart, it was a < and a 3. Hah, nerd.

cute.
